DEANWOOD
Home Repair & Contractor Services
Deanwood still has more early 1900s frame houses than most of the city. After water or fire we rebuild them so they keep their shape and trim, and we turn rentals near Deanwood station.
Deanwood Is Wood-Frame DC
Deanwood, east of the Anacostia River in Northeast, keeps more early 1900s wood-frame houses than almost any other part of the city.
Many sit on bigger lots than the rowhouses west of the river, with porches, side yards and detached garages. It feels more like a small town than a DC neighborhood.
Those houses need a contractor who respects old framing.
The local concept
Frame House Stock
Frame house stock is the collection of wood-frame houses in Deanwood, many built by local builders in the early 20th century.
Wood framing behaves differently from brick when it gets wet or burns. A rebuild starts with checking which studs, joists and sills are still sound, and replacing only what is not.
Why Deanwood calls us
Rebuilding a frame house
After water or fire, we open the walls, probe the framing and rebuild so the house keeps its shape, trim and character.

Deanwood Questions
Who issues permits in Deanwood?+
Like the rest of the District, Deanwood permits come from the DC Department of Buildings.
Can you save the original framing?+
Usually most of it. We replace members that are rotted, charred or cracked and keep the rest.
Do you also work just over the line in Maryland?+
Yes. Capitol Heights, Seat Pleasant and Fairmount Heights border Deanwood and are part of our area.
Is heart pine worth refinishing?+
If the boards are thick enough and mostly sound, yes. It is hard to match with new wood.
