Home Repair & Contractor Services

Anything the street can see on a historic Anacostia house goes through preservation review. We plan for that on fire and water rebuilds, turn rentals near the station and refit shops on MLK Avenue.

Anacostia Is a Historic District East of the River

Historic Anacostia is one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC, with frame houses from the late 1800s around Frederick Douglass's home at Cedar Hill.

It is a historic district, which shapes what you can change on the outside of your house. The Big Chair on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue marks the commercial heart.

The local concept

Historic District Rules

Historic district rules mean that exterior changes in the Anacostia Historic District go through DC historic preservation review before the permit is issued.

If a fire or storm damages your house, rebuilding what was there is the simplest path. Interior work moves at the normal pace.
