Does Prince George's County help pay for home repairs?
Yes, through two programs. Prince George's County's home repair programs, HOPP and HRAP, administered with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland, pay for roofs, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water heaters and accessibility. The county lists services up to $30,000, or up to $50,000 for households below 50 percent of area median income, and HRAP offers a 0 percent loan up to $60,000 with no monthly payment. The programs decide eligibility, and this was current as of October 2026.
What the county pays for
Roofs, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water heaters and accessibility. If the roof has been leaking into a bedroom ceiling, or the water heater gave out and flooded the basement, the repair itself is on the list.
The amounts
HOPP and HRAP services run up to $30,000 per home, and up to $50,000 for households below 50 percent of area median income. HRAP also offers a 0 percent loan of up to $60,000 with no monthly payment.
Put the failing systems at the top of the list
There is a cap, so order matters. A roof that lets water in, a water heater that has quit, a furnace that won't light in January: those come first, because each month they wait adds damage or leaves the house without heat or hot water.
Paint, trim and anything cosmetic can wait for your own money later. A clear, ranked list of repairs also makes the conversation with Habitat shorter.
How to apply
Through Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland, which administers both programs with the county. Habitat and the county set the income lines and decide each application.
We don't have their rules on how contractors are chosen or paid. Ask Habitat about both when you apply.
Where we fit
Nothing here means the county or Habitat has approved or assigned us, and we do not apply for you.
Our group handles the roof, plumbing, heating and water heater work these programs pay for, alongside the bathroom accessibility work and the rebuilds after leaks on this site. When a roof leak has come through a ceiling, the ceiling needs rebuilding too, and we can price both on one visit. Electrical work is not something we sell.
The written estimate, every repair itemized, reaches you by text a day or two after the walkthrough, and you can hand it to Habitat.
