How long does drywall installation take?
Hanging board is the fast part and finishing is the slow part, because each coat of joint compound has to dry before the next one goes on. A single room is usually a few days end to end. A whole floor or a gut renovation runs into a week or more, and cold or humid weather stretches both.
Where the days go
Hanging is measured in sheets per day and moves quickly on open framing. Taping and the coats that follow are the schedule, because you cannot sand or recoat compound that is still wet.
Three coats is normal. Level 5 adds a full skim over everything, which is another coat and another dry cycle across the whole surface.
What stretches it
Cold and damp. Compound dries by evaporation, so an unheated basement in February takes far longer between coats than the same room in June.
Ceilings, which are slower to hang and less forgiving to finish. Cut up spaces with lots of corners, soffits and openings, since the work is in the angles rather than the flat.
Waiting on another trade. If electrical or plumbing rough-in has not passed inspection, nothing gets closed.
