How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Northern Virginia?

Published October 2026 by All Purpose Anytime Services LLC

If you're pricing a kitchen in Arlington, Fairfax or Alexandria, you won't find a Northern Virginia average from anyone who isn't selling kitchens. The nearest figures are a Washington, DC average of $35,775 (Fixr) and a national average of $26,988, with most homeowners paying $14,592 to $41,617 (Angi, 2026). By scope, Angi puts a minor remodel at $10,000 to $20,000 and a complete one at $65,000 to $130,000 or more.

The numbers that exist

Angi's 2026 kitchen numbers come from 13,100 verified projects. The national average is $26,988 and most homeowners pay $14,592 to $41,617. Minor remodels run $10,000 to $20,000, major ones $20,000 to $65,000 and complete remodels $65,000 to $130,000 or more. Per square foot that works out to $75 to $250, and Angi says cabinets can take 40% or more of the budget.

Fixr's Washington, DC page puts the average at $35,775, from $12,720 for a simple update up to $318,000 for a luxury renovation. Its DC breakdown shows average labor of $17,888 and permits at about $1,500.

Neither one measures Northern Virginia. The DC page is the closest metro figure we found from someone who doesn't sell remodels.

Where the money goes in a kitchen

The first question is whether anything moves. If the sink, range and refrigerator stay where they are and you're replacing cabinets, counters and finishes, it's the shorter job. Put the sink on another wall or take a wall out and you've added plumbing, wiring and inspections. That's about where Angi's major and complete bands start.

Cabinets come next. At 40% or more of the budget by Angi's count, the choice between stock, semi-custom and custom boxes moves the total a long way.

Permits go through your local office, whether that's Fairfax County's Department of Land Development Services, Arlington County, Alexandria's Department of Code Administration or Falls Church's Department of Development Services. Moving walls, plumbing or wiring brings permit review and inspections with it, and that time belongs in the schedule as much as in the price.

How we price it

We don't publish a kitchen price. Your layout, cabinets, counters and appliances decide it, so we measure the room first. The written estimate reaches you by text within 24 to 48 hours of the walkthrough, with the price and a link to approve it.

Plumbing, power, cabinets, counters, appliances and floors go on one scope, so you aren't lining up trades yourself. If we find something behind the old cabinets, we price it and you approve it before the work goes on. See kitchen remodeling.

Where these numbers come from

On October 25, 2026 we went looking for a Northern Virginia kitchen figure from a source outside the remodeling trade and came up empty. We left out pages published by companies that sell kitchen work, which leaves two sources.
